A particularly stocky immature (third or fourth winter plumage?) Glaucous-winged Gull at Clover Point, Victoria BC - January 20, 2003.  The legs are shorter than most individuals of the species (no, it's not an optical illusion nor a bad camera angle).  The mantle is the same color as the primaries - a good mark of the species.  In January, a fair number of birds of this age class develop the contrasting two-toned  bill.  Comments on the age of this individual would be appreciated.  © Michael G.
