Immature (likely a first year bird) Glaucous-winged Gull at the mouth of the Salinas River near Moss Landing CA - May 9, 2003.  A very worn and sun-bleached bird.  Birds like this are frequently misidentified as Glaucous Gulls Larus hyperboreas.  Glaucous Gulls typically have massive bicolored bills at this age.  © Tom Grey.
