Adult bird (left) photographed at the mouth of French Creek BC on January 5, 2004.
Here it is with an adult Herring Gull.  It was much darker than neighboring Thayer's, Herring and Glaucous-winged Gulls.  It appeared larger than Thayer's and Herring but smaller than Glaucous-winged.  The bill was stouter than that of Thayer's, slimmer than many Glaucous-winged, and similar to Herring.  According to Rick Toochin, this is a relatively common form of Glaucous-winged x Herring Gull hybrid in the Vancouver BC area.  Others have suggested that the darkness fits Glaucous-winged x Western better.  Scroll down to view another photo.
