Immature Glaucous-winged x Western Gull (likely a  first winter bird) at Clover Point BC - January 5, 2003.  Possibly a Western Gull, but as Jamie Fenneman put it:  "I think it is a dark Glaucous-winged x Western hybrid.  Looks pretty good for Western (especially the bill size/shape and dark primaries).  However, I don't think that the primaries and tertials are quite black enough for pure Western (especially the tertials, which I think should be extensively blackish on pure Westerns).... ".  The bird in the rear is an adult Glaucous-winged Gull in basic plumage.
