Photographers and Species Account Contributors

Here is some information about persons have generously permitted use of their bird images or who have written species accounts for this site.  This is a partial listing - it includes only people who have submitted biographies.

Donald G. Cecile is the regional editor for BC/Yukon/NWT for North American Birds.  He is an educator who spends some of his spare time taking pictures of wildlife.  His photographic contributions to this site are scanned images of slides taken with a 300mm 2.8 Nikkor lens with 2x teleconverter on an F90X Nikon camera..

One of the BC interior's most active birders, Chris Charlesworth facilitates the Okanagan Valley Rare Bird Alert, and is co-author (with Dick Cannings and Chris Siddle) of the soon to be released Bird Finding Guide to the Okanagan Valley.  He is the operator of Avocet Tours www.avocettours.com based in Kelowna.

Bruce Craig is a Church manager who lives in Portland, Oregon.  His family has long been interested in birds, and he has been casually photographing birds since the mid-1960s.  He recently became more serious about bird photography and uses two Canon EOS 7e bodies with 100-400 Image-stabilized (IS) zoom, 28-135 IS, 2x tele-converter, and Celestron C5 terestrial scope.  He digitizes his slide or negative photos with a Canon FS2710 film scanner for his web site at www.birdphotographique.com, and for prints from an Epson Stylus Photo 2000P.

Over the past many years, Ralph Hocken has worked in British Columbia's forest industry.  Recently he has taken up birding and bird photography, and now uses a Canon 10D digital camera with a Canon 600mm L IS lens to capture the essence of Vancouver Island's birds.

Diann MacRae is a biologist and writer/photographer who coordinates the Olympic Vulture Study.  She is also the American correspondent for the Vulture Study Group and newsletter editor for the Washington Ornithological Society.

Tony Markle lives in Nanoose Bay on Vancouver Island. Now retired, his hobby is photography. His current camera is a Canon 20D digital and for telephoto shots he uses a Canon 300mm f4 non-IS lens, with which he sometimes uses a Tamron 2x tele-converter.  A variety of his photography may be viewed at: http://public.fotki.com/Imagemaster/

Guy L. Monty is a private wildlife consultant, guide, and an extremely active birder.  He is also a keen naturalist with wide ranging interests.  Recently, he has added digi-scoping to his birding activities.  He uses a Pentax PF80ED telescope, in concert with a Nikon CoolPix 4300 digital camera.  Guy resides in Parksville BC.

A professional biologist, based in Victoria BC, Michael G. Shepard has recently taken to the digital camera age.  A fan of compact "point and shoot" cameras, he uses an Olympus C700 Ultra Zoom and Canon PowerShot S2 IS to snap images.  Michael has created most of the content on this web site and can be reached at info@birdinfo.com

Finding ways to turn his birding hobby into his profession, Steve Sosensky is VP of Operations of www.Optics4Birding.com (an online optics store), and a birding guide in Southern California. A former fashion photographer, Steve also turned his profession into a hobby.  His bird photos and guiding contact information call both be found at www.sosensky.com

Retired and living in Kelowna, Esther Wyatt photographs gardens for the City of Kelowna, the Communities in Bloom, and for various publications.  She says "I've always had a camera in my hands, and now I can enjoy it to the fullest.  My passion, is the Calliope Hummingbird and making a safe haven for them each year."

 

Tim Zurowski started photography in 1980, with his main focus being on nature photography.  It didn’t take long to become infatuated with birds and bird photography. He has traveled all over North America adding to his ABA bird list and to his photo image bank. His photography has been published worldwide in many books, magazines and field guides. Tim is now retired from his government job for 28 years with the Ministry of Transportation, and back at his photography on a semi-professional level.  Tim uses a full digital SLR (DSLR) setup, and is currently using a Nikon D70S, Nikkor 300 f4 AFS, Nikkor TC-14E II, Nikkor TC-20E II, Nikkor 105 f2.8 micro and three Nikon SB speedlights.  His photo gallery can be viewed at www.timzphotography.com/
